Areva Partners Astonfield for biomass power plants

Areva Renewables and Astonfield Renewable Resources on Friday formed a strategic partnership to implement 100 MW biomass power plants across the country with an investment of Rs. 630 crore. Work on the first plant is scheduled to being in the last quarter of 2009 at Gangarampur in West Bengal.

"We will bring our world wide expertise of 100 bioenergy plants in operation or under construction, which represents more than 2,800 MW of installed capacity and reduces three million tones of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions each year," Areva Renewables CEO Anil Srivastava said.

Under the terms of the agreement, Areva’s bio-energy unit in Chennai will be responsible for plant design, construction and commissioning.

The group will also co-invest in there projects along said Astonfield. In addition, Areva offers its customers assistance in getting the most out of carbon credits including the offer to buy back the voluntary carbons credits generated by the project.
